Creating And Selling During Covid With Gratitude

August 12th, 2020

Do you see the photo of the bead I have on this blog? I typed hashtag Texas; #Texas and it brought someone over from Texas who looked at my instagram page, went to my website and bought a necklace and a pair of earrings. That’s how you get the job done.

I am really grateful. I had no idea how my business would fare during a pandemic. None. I was nervous knowing all events were cancelled. I miss my clients. I miss interacting with many in person. I miss meeting new faces and potential clients, but in spite of this awful virus, things on the business front are not bad. I have done rather well. The month of May and June, when events usually take place, I prospered better than I do at an event. I am spending a lot of time indoors and just creating. Art is my therapy and it has served me well. I feel relaxed and I am enjoying taking old pieces apart and coming up with new designs with all that I have, which is so much. I have so many stones, beads, etc. I have no desire to get this virus and I will take not setting up a tent and having a twelve hour day outside in weather I have no control over.

A group of artists have come together to help each other on instagram. We have formed an alliance of artists supporting other artists. Instagram and Facebook are governed by algorithms. The more likes and comments that take place under a piece of jewelry, or whatever it is you are promoting, the more likely it is to be seen by others. A bunch of us are helping each other out by commenting under other artists work. It’s helping. Every single week I am receiving orders from people I don’t know. One last week from New Mexico and one this week from Texas. You must use hashtags if you have something you are trying to promote, whether it be jewelry, yourself, your dog, clothing or music. If you want people to see your work, hashtags are key.

As much as I am not happy about this pandemic, I am happy that I am still going, I still have a business and can I tell you how grateful I am that I don’t have a store? Stores are closing left and right and not having to deal with rent when I can just work from home works for me. If you are reading this, know that we can do a zoom session, or I can bring jewelry to you if you would like to see gems and baubles in person and you are fairly local. I also can drop pieces off to you if you live nearby. Autumn is not here yet, but people are already wanting pieces for the fall and then the holiday season. Artists will be getting creative this year and I am no exception. I plan on having jewelry set up at my apartment during fall and the holiday season and one can make an appointment and come to view it while maintaining social distancing.

Want to help an artist out, or any business big or small? Be sure to like their work, share it, comment underneath it so that more people can see it. Help out small businesses and stores by liking their work. Let’s keep businesses afloat. If you have an account on instagram, begin liking businesses work on there. That is how people in Texas and New Mexico are seeing my work. Instagram is an amazing tool where people from all over the world can see our work and business. Facebook is word of mouth and local friends and clients, which is just as wonderful. I have people from other countries following me on instagram.

They say we are all in this together and we are. Thank you, everyone. Thanks for reading and thanks for caring and sharing.
