My Lake Sunapee Summer

July 23rd, 2022

MY LAKE SUNAPEE SUMMER

The lake is accessible

a mere glance away

healing me daily

in subtle ways

It is a neighbor

ever welcoming

always bearing gifts,

a landmark

which remains~

possessing a sort of

changing mood

and graceful acquiescence

to each season

and weather

of every kind.

I too am moody

but resilient~

and often

changing my mind

You may find me warm

and welcoming

or I can turn to ice

If the climate isn’t just right.

Labile

yet reliant

on fixtures

I find my way

with a map of

ponds

trees

and boulders;

things that stay.

only humans

and all things

manmade

inevitably die

or leave

and fade away.

No script for nature

or expectations needed

nothing required for tides and seasons

no assumptions heeded

The fish and minnows do what they do

They swim from one shore to another with grace.

The loons, deer flies and moose

ask nothing of their maker

During this summer, neither shall I.

It’s already been given.

I have come here for the summer season

No rhyme, or reason

Other than it recharges

And breathes life into me

For today,

tomorrow

and for every

summer day

New Hampshire is

where I wish I could stay.
